Children's Museum Singapore — Build the Change X Into the Hawkerverse
BOUN Consulting was the independent research and evaluation partner for Children's Museum Singapore (CMSG) to evaluate Build the Change X Into the Hawkerverse, a workshop series developed with the LEGO® Group that invited children and families to explore Singapore's hawker heritage through hands-on, playful co-creation. The engagement assessed how children and caregivers engaged with the programme and built the museum team's internal capability for ongoing data collection.
The workshops ran alongside CMSG's special exhibition Into the Hawkerverse, which celebrates hawker culture as Singapore's first inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Children and families worked with LEGO® bricks to imagine more sustainable and inclusive hawker centres. The programme served both general public visitors and families reached through CMSG's community access partners.
The evaluation spanned every session in the series, examining family-child engagement and learning and comparing experiences across both audience groups. BOUN Consulting delivered a full report with practical recommendations for CMSG and the LEGO® Group — shaping future iterations of the workshop and the museum's wider family programming — and equipped CMSG's team with tools and routines to continue collecting data on its own. Together, the work gave CMSG and the LEGO Group a clearer picture of what meaningful family engagement with cultural heritage looks like in practice.
